You’ve made time to listen to podcasts, read business books, attend masterclasses, conferences and workshops. Bravo! But did you make time to implement what you learned!? If not, then what was the point?
Procrasto-learning is a thing ya’ll!
Truly. All of those things take up a ton of your precious time. Time that you can’t get back for other things. So if you aren’t taking action on this learning, it’s really only helping at the surface. It’s another way to hide, to delay, and to procrastinate. Stop thinking that learning is consuming!
Let’s just agree, before I go any further with this… professional development is essential to long term success as a coach, a service provider, an entrepreneur. Learning is evolving, growing, and stepping forward. It requires consuming, processing, and action to truly impact your development. It enables you to evolve to the next level within your career. But it’s easy to get caught up in consumption of knowledge! Especially in this digital renaissance, we are so blessed with today.
So many things are FREE:
✔️ Listening to podcasts
✔️ Watching YouTube and IGtv videos
✔️ Reading digital downloads.
And there are so many lower-priced options too:
✔️ Online courses
✔️ Bootcamp style group programs
✔️ One-off 60-minute sessions
✔️ Business books
Again, great ways to get a little deeper without breaking the bank. The problem lies in whether or not you’re investing time after you consume these resources to take action on that knowledge.
Learning without Action is a ZERO sum game.
It really does nothing. This is why programs that add accountability result in breakthroughs with bigger returns on your investment of money because they require you to also invest your time.
My client Jenn shared with me that she is a course collector, especially if they are under $100. If she even signed in after buying one, she would watch some of the videos and download the workbooks to her google drive. When she hired me to help her develop a methodology for her business and a marketing strategy with steps to execute and follow-up, she realized she had heard these ideas before in her courses but hadn’t previously done anything with these things she “learned.”.
If this sounds familiar, then you too may be guilty of procrasto-learning, let’s change the dialogue:
-FROM “what podcasts are you listening to?” TO< “how did you adjust things in your business after listening to which podcast?”
-OR ask yourself “what action did I take after reading that business book?” INSTEAD OF just listing out the books, you are reading.
